Vertical habitat (or vegetation) structure is defined as the bottom-to-top configuration of aboveground vegetation at a site (Brokaw and Lent 1999). We define horizontal habitat structure as the compo- sition and configuration of a landscape with regard to land-cover class (Turner et al. 2001).
