Viroids are infectious agents which are smaller than viruses and consists of free RNA without protein coat called capsomere.They cause potato spindle tuber disease in plants.
They differ from viruses in two respects:
- firstly they lack virion like dormant phase
- secondly genome is in much smaller quantity
