An opening in the earth's crust that allows hot molten lava, ash and gases to escape from below the surface, is called a volcano.

With time, the lava and ash flow out of the magma chamber, cool down, solidify and accumulate in layers forming a Volcano. The earth is composed of three layers: Crust, Mantle and Core.

Answer:

A volcano is a rupture in the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as Earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface. On Earth, volcanoes are most often found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging, and most are found underwater.
