Valence shell electron pair repulsion theory is a model used in chemistry to predict the geometry of individual molecules from the number of electron pairs surrounding their central atoms. It is also named the Gillespie-Nyholm theory after its two main developers, Ronald Gillespie and Ronald Nyholm.

Hope it helps

⭕️The VSEPR or Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion determines the shape of covalent molecules.

➖The postulate says:-

⭕️The shape of a molecule depends upon the no.of valence shell electron pairs around the central atom.

⭕️Pairs of electrons in the valence shell repel each other as their electron clouds are negatively charged.

⭕️A multiple bond is treated as a single electron pair and the 2 or 3 electron pairs of a multiple bond are treated as a single super pair.

➖Decreasing order of repulsive interaction of electron pairs:

⭕️Lone pair (lp) − Lone pair (lp) > Lone pair (lp) − Bond pair (bp) > Bond pair (bp) − Bond pair (bp)

️⭕Reason for greater repulsion between lp−lp :-

⭕️ The lone pairs occupy larger space than the pairs.

⭕️Molecules in the central atom has one or more lone pairs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
