Some compounds have a certain number of molecules of water 'coordinated' or 'attached' to the molecule. These water molecules affect the color and properties of the compound to a large extent. The molecules of water coordinated are called water of crystallisation.
For Example : CuSO4.5H2O is blue in color. On heating it forms CuSO4 which is white in color.
The 5H2O is called the water of crystallisation.
