HEY MATE !!!

DEFINITION

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of human activities.

EFFECTS

Water pollution has various adverse effects not only on humans but also on the Marine life

1)Diseases: In humans, drinking or consuming polluted water in any way has many disastrous effects on our health. It causes typhoid, cholera, hepatitis and various other diseases.

2)Destruction of Ecosystems: Ecosystems are extremely dynamic and respond to even small changes in the environment. Water pollution can cause an entire ecosystem to collapse if left unchecked.

3)Effects the food chain: Disruption in food chains happens when toxins and pollutants in the water are consumed by aquatic animals (fish, shellfish etc) which are then consumed by humans.

MEASURES TO CONTROL:

There can be many small steps taken to prevent it's vast effects. Some of them are

1) Conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This helps prevent water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment.

2) Don't throw paints, oils or other forms of litter down the drain. Use environmentally household products, such as washing powder, household cleaning agents and toiletries.

3) Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilisers.

4) Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans.

5) Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin.
