Weathering is the breaking down or dissolving of rocks and minerals on Earths surface. Once a rock has been broken down, a process called erosion transports the bits of rock and minerals away. Water, acids, salt, plants, animals, and changes in temperature are all agents of weathering and erosion.

Correct Question:-

What is weathering?

Required Answer:-

Weathering is a static process that involves the crumbling down or disintegration as well as decomposition of rock masses due to the action of different elements of weather such as rain, frost, wind and fluctuations in the temperature. It appears I'm situ, which means at the place where the rock lies.

Types of weathering:-

  • Physical weathering: This involves physical disintegration of rock without any change in its chemical composition.

  • Chemical weathering: The decomposition and disintegration of rocks due to chemical reactions is called chemical weathering.

  • Biological weathering: Plants, animals and human-beings contribute to this weathering. Rocks are weakened and broken by organic acids produced by decomposed plants and animal remains.
