The western disturbances are the temperate cyclones which originate over maditerrenean sea and western Asia,and move into india,along with the westerly flow of jet streams.It causes most winter and pre-monsoon seasonal rainfall in northwest India.

Western disturbances are low pressure system arising in Mediterranean Sea crossing iran iraq afghanistan and pakistan to reach india 5000km away where it causes rainfall.

It causes winter rainfall in the months of december to february in north western parts of india including punjab himachal pradesh jammu and kashmir etc.
