MEANING :

  • A wildlife sanctuary is an area where animal habitats and their surroundings are protected from any sort of disturbance. The capturing, killing and poaching of animals is strictly prohibited in these regions. They aim at providing a comfortable living to the animals.
  • An animal sanctuary is a facility where animals are brought to live and to be protected for the rest of their lives. Pattrice Jones, co-founder of VINE Sanctuary defines an animal sanctuary as "a safe-enough place or relationship within the continuing hazards that menace everybody".

WILD LIFE SANTURIES IN INDIA :

There are 553 existing wildlife sanctuaries in India covering an area of 119,776 km2, which is 3.64% of the geographical area of the country (National Wildlife Database, March, 2019).
