This Method is used when one of the substance is very light weight. Separating the lighter component from heavier component is called Winnowing.

It uses the fact thay chaff is lighter than the geain. The farmer stands at a higher level and let the mixture fall to the ground. The grain being heavier falls almost vertivally and lighter chaff is carried away by wind and form a separate heap.
