Wood's Despatch is the event observed in History of India under British Rule. 

President of the Board of Control of theEnglish East India Company, had an important effect on spreading english learning and female education in India .When in 1854 he sent a despatch to Lord Dalhousie, the then Governor-General of India.

Actually, it was the Education reforms introduced during the tenure of British governor general Lord Dalhousie (1848 - 1856).

Sir Charles Wood, the president of board of control prepared the despatch regarding the Education known as Sir Charles wood's despatch.

Some of the important recommendations are

It proposed the setting up of primary schools (Vernacular languages) at lowest level, High schools (Anglo Vernacular) and Colleges ( English medium) at district level.

Establishment of Institutions for training teachers on English model.

Universities on the Model of London University were proposed for Madras, Bombay and Calcutta. Each University should have a Senate, Chancellor, Vice-chancellor and fellows nominated by the government.

Female education was to be encouraged by the Government.

The system of grants-in-aid was recommended to help Private enterprises. However, the grants were conditional based on the principle of Religious neutrality.

Comprehensive system of scholarship was recommended.

More attention was to be given to Elementary education.

Director of public instruction was to be appointed in every province.
