sir charles wood,president of the board of control in england ,sent a dispatch to lord dalhousie with his reccomendation on the system of education to be follwed in india .this dispatch was  the blueprint for education in india for a long time. the main points of this dispatch were-
1)provision was made for a systematic method of education from the primary level to the university level.
2)an education department was to be set up in all provinces
3)in bombay,madras and calcutta ,universities were to be set up along the lines of london universities   
 4)every district was to have one government school.
5)grants-in-aid were to be given to private schools affiliated with the govt.
6)indians were to be taught the mother tongue as well.

wood's despatch of 1854 made major changes in the education policy to the British. it gave a detailed plan for a separate department of education. universities were set up at the presidency towns of Bombay, Calcutta and Madras. institutes for training the teachers were also set up and assistance was given to vernacular schools. in 1882 ,an education commission was formed to look into the system of revenue in education, female education, setting up of schools, colleges and universities.
