work function maybe defined as the minimum freequency that a light must have in order to eject an electron from the metal surfave.

E= hc/(λ X 1.6 X 10⁻¹⁹) eV.

where, h= 6.63 X 10⁻³⁴

            c=3 X 10⁸.

            λ= 6800 X 10⁻¹⁰.

putting the values in formula we get,

E = 1.828 eV (approx.)

as the energy is lower than the work function of sodium. So, sodium doesn't show photoelectric emission for light of wavelength 6800 armstrong.
