What is wrong with paraphrase?
Perhaps the major reason that classic detective
fiction has appealed so strongly to the educated is
that it is a form of entertainment which also enables
a reader to test his intelligence and perception.”
--from The Gentle Art of Murder by Earl F. Bargainnier, p. 8, 1980

There are a few important points to bear in mind while paraphrasing a text. The paraphrasing has failed to meet both the criteria.

1. Creativity- Paraphrasing a text means conveying the same information in your own words. Words and phrases should not be copied from the text. In this case however, only the sentence structure had been changed. The key words remain the same. Thus, the paraphrasing fails the test of creativity. It is more like copying with minor changes.

2. Accuracy- It is essential to ensure that the meaning of the original text is not lost or changed in any way. Here however, the paraphrasing has altered the meaning. The original text talks about a ‘possibly major reason’ of why detective texts are liked. The paraphrasing however, lightly suggests the same as a reason. It fails to lay emphasis on the ‘major reason’ part.
