"Pastoralism" generally has a mobile aspect; moving the herds in search of fresh pasture and water (in contrast topastoral farming, in which non-nomadic farmers grow crops and improve pastures for their livestock).

Indian society was predominantly an agriculture-based society and continues to be one, with agricultural being a major source of livelihood for many.  Hence, ‘pastoralism’ is an important subject and issue in our country.

It is the branch of agriculture which covers, rearing livestock. It includes animal husbandry, care and use of such animals. Pastoralism also signifies pastures, which provide food for farm-animals and the move from one location to another, in search of food for animals.
