Thomas Young's was the first person to demonstrate experimentally the interference of light known as young's double slit experiment .

Explanation:

In this experiment he discuss about the interference of light i.e

When two light waves of the same frequency and having zero constant phase difference travelling in the same direction superpose each other, the intensity in the region of superposition gets redistributed becoming maximum( constructive interference) at some points and minimum( destructive interference) at others . This phenomenon called as Interference of light was explain by Young's double experiment.
