The poet says that the snake is harmless even to children. People fear snakes and when they see one, they try to kill it with a stick.

In the poem 'The snake trying', the author describes a pittyful condition of a small green water snake. He describes how once he came across a green water snake which was resting on the shore of a waterbody and suddenly somebody threw a stick at him. The snake was shocked and quickly went into hiding.

Through this beautiful poem, the poet tries to convey the message that each and every creation of God have the right to live peacefully and happily. He says that if snakes attack, this is only because of their defence mechanism which they use to survive in this world.
