Griffin was not merely a scientist but also an ambitious man he wanted to use all his knowledge in the field of science to create something new which nobody has done.
Griffin was an honest and very valuable scientist did he came across new optical experiments which turned him into an aggressive man. Because of that he started to think that he wants everything and the only way is dad to get invisible and don't come in anybody's eye.
But later in the story that invisibility proved to be lethal for him.

Griffin as a scientist was genius with an irritable temper though. His brilliance came into limelight when he made a remarkable discovery by inventing the wondrous drug that enabled him to become invisible. Griffin was a short tempered scientist who sets fire to the house of his landlord in a fit of anger. The way he stole clothes from the London store and then robbed the shopkeeper show him to be an amoral person if not immoral. In fact, he misused his discovery to satisfy his whims.
