Copying in exam should be considered a serious offense.Exams are meant to measure one's understanding of a subject. Though some might say they are at times not made properly and fairly on each individual's intellectual, giving them fairly is quite necessary for one's own part.

If the school or any educational institution wanted you to cheat, they would hav made it a open book exam or would have made it a partner activity.

Certain methods of cheating in exam needs to be revised and “decriminalize”.

For instance:

Exams should test students much more on critical thinking skills as opposed to just blind, old school rote memorization. In this time and age, application of knowledge is what we truly need. The delivery of exams should be modified and challenged to reflect such progress.Bringing notes into exam. If point 1 is followed through, we can have open book exams. If someone has not spend time to think through complex concepts and worked through them, no matter how you copy from the book, it is as useless as copying from a newspaper or Peter & Jane Storybook. (Maybe examination duration can be shortened to weed out who truly understands such concepts).Cheating by lieu of calculators and electronic devices. Some mathematics exams have now allowed the usage of calculators etc. But to make a daily comparison, we all use calculators on a day to day basis on our smart phones to arrive at our figures etc. We also use our smart phones to refer to pertinent information relevant to our field. Aren’t we cheating on a day to day basis?

Of course, all of these would best take place in Subjective exams, and it’s not just the answer, but the quality of reasoning behind every answer we give. Perhaps the true solution lies with our teachers, will they be patient enough to go through everything we have written; and is higher education or education as a whole just about obtaining a piece of paper, or gaining knowledge?

I have not addressed peer to peer cheating; I assume with stringent maneuvers in the examination hall, it will take the bravest of students to cheat as such.

Academic Integrity is very important for the flourishing of any field.

I says it is totally wrong
