In my personal opinion, the imposition of the death penalty varies between each crime.
The prison systems are supposed to be a reformative place where convicts should be made to feel that they deserve a second chance. But these very prison systems funded by our taxes have failed us. Research and statistics show us that ex-convicts are by a wide margin less likely to be hired. They are also ostracised from society directly and indirectly. This does not allow ex-cons a second chance through reformation.
For severe crimes, the death penalty should be imposed. A person should not get away with heinous crimes.
In some cases, death penalties are imposed on the innocent and their innocence is revealed long after the deed is done. But in others, justice takes a long time to be served and criminals get a stay-out-of-jail card for some years or maybe for the rest of their life (examples are the Nirbhaya case in India and the Zodiac Killer in the USA)
To sum it all up, I am personally wary about the death penalty.
