The personal opinion of my that the poem is based on the thought that we should stop having ill feeling in the heart like hatred, racial discrimination, status in the society etc. because these type of feelings leads a to his/her on destruction .

in the poem cold within the fire there is a symbol of purity and the birch wood there is a symbol of sin if that 6 people present there would have thrown their birch wood in the fire they would have get rid of their sin
