Z is 2-Propanol ( CH_{3}CHOHCH_{3} ) .

  • When CH_{3}CHOHCH_{3} is reacted with PCl_{5} , 2-Chloropropane ( CH_{3}CHClCH_{3} ) is formed . Thus , X is 2-Chloropropane ( CH_{3}CHClCH_{3} ) .
  • When CH_{3}CHClCH_{3} is reacted with alc. KOH , Propene ( CH_{3}-CH=CH_{2} ) is formed . Thus , Y is CH_{3}-CH=CH_{2} .
  • When CH_{3}-CH=CH_{2} is treated with conc. H_{2}SO_{4} and H_{2}O , 2-Propanol ( CH_{3}CHOHCH_{3} ) is formed .
  • The molar mass of 2-Propanol ( CH_{3}CHOHCH_{3} ) is 60.1 g/mol .
