What is Zeolites?

A shape-selective catalyst having Honeycomb structure which permit only selective molecules.

Formula: Mx/n [(AlO₂)x (SiO₂)y].zH₂O

Examples:

  • ZSM-5
  • Linde-A (synthetic)
  • Faujasite (natural)

Application of Zeolites:

  1. Acts as water softener & selective absorbents.
  2. Used as "ions-exchanger" in softening of hard water.
  3. For cracking of Hydrocarbons & Isomerization.
