Answer:

Because of the movements occurring in the interior of the earth, tremendous tension is created in the earth's crust. When the tension goes beyond the limits, the energy is released in the form of waves. This results in trembling of the earth surface and such trembling of surface is called earthquake.

Causes:

  1. Moving of the plates.
  2. Colliding of plates.
  3. Plates sliding one below the other .
  4. Forming of fractures in rock layers due to the tension in interior of the earth.

An earthquake is a sudden slip away of earth plates past one another from the fault plane.

Explanation:

  • Hypo-center is the origin below the earth surface while Epi-center refers to the location just above the former but on the earth surface.
  • As the jagged edges of the fault untangles from each other, the stored energy is released and that gets radiates outward in all directions in seismic wave form which eventually shakes the earth surface as they hits the surface.
  • Prior precautions are to be taken once geologists made a announcement on any upcoming earthquake.
  • Earthquake prone zone must be analysed and any sort of constructions must be avoided in these areas.
