my dear connecting link means just a link to connect between body parts
for e.g Neoplania it is the connecting link between annelida and mollacsa

Something that links or connects one member to another ,that is ,connecting or uniting one member of a series is called a connecting link.
eg: oviparous mammals is a connecting link btwn reptiles and mammals.( having characteristics fr both reptiles and mammals)
