Indian ocean is named after India because, India holds a central location which is at the head of the Indian Ocean.India has the longest coastline in the region adding to its clout, no other country in the Indian ocean indeed has that long a coastline.India also serves as an important transit point for sea routes connecting the two regions that is countries of Europe with countries of East Asia. The name aslo has historical significance as once upon a time India was the no. 1 exporter.Just as India derived it's name from the river Indus, similarly the Indus eventually will drain into the Indian Ocean. Hence it is called the Indian Ocean.

earlier India was not only india but it was comprised of courtries including pakistan , bangladesh , sri lanka , Maldives , myanmar and a few more. This it was named as Indian Subcontinent. Thats why indian ocean is named after India and is the only one which is named after a name of a country.
