2012. On 19 September 2012, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ordered Karnataka to release 9,000 cusecs of water per day from the Kaveri to Tamil Nadu. But Karnataka felt that this was impractical due to the drought conditions prevailing because of the failed monsoon.
