Evans was quite a pleasant type of person. But he was a congenital kleptomaniac. From his birth he had a tendency to steal. He was arrested Manya time for stealing. But he was very clever and intelligent. Three times he had managed to escape from prison. The prison officers called him ‘Evans the Break’ . the governor of Oxford Prison was now over cautious about him. He did not want Evans to escape another time. But in spite of all the Vigilance Evans once again fools the jail officials and escapes. Otherwise Evans was a nice person. He was a Jolly good fellow. He was one of the stars at Christmas concert. He was not at all violent in his behaviour. There was no record of violence against him. He was very witty. He took a mischievous delight in teasing the prison officer Jackson. He seems to be the best character in the story and wins the appreciation of the Reader.
