1) Historians depend upon coins to gather information of past events.
2) They obtain information on the basis of the time period and nature of their study.
3) Coins which were minted by the ruler in his/her name give an idea on how powerful the rulers were.For example Nur Jahan, the only queen in the Mughal Empire minted coins in her name.
4) The metal used for the coins gives an idea of the advances in metallurgy for the period.
5) The signs or emblems used on the coins give an indication on religions and practices followed.
