Before the advent of the British rule in India,  there were a whole group of castes, communities, races, religions and tribes, feuding against each other, which were kept simmering by local rulers and landlords.

The tribal people lived in poverty and rigorously and were looked upon down by the society.

The condition of a lot tribes improved under the British who came as a saving grace for the lower strata of the society
