Answer:

A safe working environment and work that doesn't interfere with their education or playtime helps children gain cognitive and/or motor skills along with a sense of self-esteem. I was a part-time teacher at a boarding school where middle-school kids from rural poor families lived and studied. They were given tasks for an hour or so everyday. They worked in picking up light trash from school grounds, pottery, basket making, paper-mache jewellery work, etc. I realized how proud the kids felt when something they did was appreciated or something they created was purchased. In between their lessons and experiments they often mentioned what they achieved the other day either individually or a group. I am confident these kids will grow up to be responsible, kind and successful adults.
