Bastar, the biggest tribal district of Chhattisgarh, is famous for its colorful tribes.

The Bastar Tribes constitute about 70% of the total population. This comes approximately to 26.76% of the total tribal population of Chhattisgarh. The names of some of the major tribes of this region are the Gond, Bhatra, Muria, Abhuj Maria, Bison Horn Maria, Halbaa and Dhurvaa. The Gonds of Bastar, especially, play a significant role in the Tribal Culture of Bastar, Chhattisgarh, India


Their beliefs and customs-The people of bastar speak different languages but share common customs and beliefs as follows:Like bastar people had the belief that the land is given by earth so in return they give their offerings to the earth at any festival.And they were having a custom that if people from a village want to take some wood from the forests of another village, they pay a small fee in exchange.


Shifting cultivation, hunting and collection of forest product were the important professions of the people ofBastar.

Bastarr people led very simple life as regular tribal community and their Mainly sacrifice 5 communities which are Maria,  Muria, Gonds, Dhurwas, Halbas. when we talk about their occupation like hunter-gatherers agriculture etc.
