There is an extremely wide range of materials that are used for the handle portion of cooking utensils. Ideally, as long as the material won't melt at temperatures below about 212°F , doesn't dissolve in water, and isn't composed of some highly toxic substance, it can probably be used as a handle. I have cooking utensils with handles made out of wood, aluminum, nylon, steel, bakelite, etc… Ideally, you want a durable, non-slip, thermally opaque handle.

Materials like thermosetting plastic can be used for making handles of utenstls. For example. Trflon, Melamine, Bakelite etc.
