Kalighat paintings are produced with variety of based opaque colour on paper the paper are either hand made or machine made several colours like blue,indigo,red,green, yellow, carbon black etc. used in panting some of these colours are made by igneous ingredient for example : turmeric root for yellow colour, blue colour was made by aprajita flowers petals and black colour was made by common soots by burning an oil lamp under pot. silver and golden colours were also used for ornamentation in Kalighat paintings. bel fruits are crushed or tamerind seeds was used as binder. many factories also but that colour doesn't give bright and not better than natural one
