postmaster is the head of an individual post office. When apostmaster is responsible for an entire mail distribution organization (usually sponsored by a national government), the title of Postmaster General is commonly used.

In the story, "The Postmaster" by Rabindranath Tagore, the Postmaster is a romantic, positive, realistic and a simple man.

He seems to be a romantic man because he wants to share his romantic memories with people around him. he also tried his hand in writing.

He is positive in his approach because although he knows the limitations of moving to Ulapur from Calcutta yet he takes it up as a challenge.

He seems to be realistic because he knows that the people at the factory will not understand his romantic emotions.

So, he make a friend with a small girl, Ratan. Ratan calls her "Dada" and he is realistic of the relationship with Ratan.

Finally, he is a simple man because he takes up whatever life has thrown at him.

Once he knows that he cannot proceed on a path any further, he decides to move on a different path altogether.
