this poem is really talking about freedom.  This poem is full of symbols, like the wind representing freedom. The kite represents all of the pent emotions the protagonist felt when his dad left him. He kept the kite in hopes that his dad would come back until one day he accepts that his father isn’t coming back. When he realises the kite into the free wind, he is also freeing himself.
