* social inequality:

french revolution was against the social and economic i equality existed in French society. french society wsmas divided into three estates. the clergy formed the first estate. the nobility formed the second estate. the third estate consisted of the middle class including lawyers, teachers, officials, bankers, farmers, craftman etc..

the first two estate were exempted from paying taxes and had a law social status. they had to pay the burden of taxes like tithe and taille. the common people want to change the social system.

the levy new tax Louis XVI summoned the state general , the French legislative assembly in 1789. each estate had vote. this was opposed by the other two estate. the third estate declared themselves as the national assembly of France. ( they assembled in the tennis court nearby and swore not to leave until they had framed a constitution of France this event is known as tennis court oath) on 14 July 1789 revolutionaries demolished the Bestille prison the symbol of the French monarchy. this marked the beginning of French revolution.
