Mrs. Dorling did not receive the narrator warmly. She opened the door a chink ; she did not want the narrator to come inside her house and see all her mother’s belongings such as cutlery, sliver, crockery, antique things, etc. She had no intention of returning these things to her. That’s why she tried to send her away from the door. Not opening the door fully meant Mrs. Dorling was not happy to receive the narrator. The narrator felt bad at the cold reception. So, she went away.

When the author visited the address then that thing left a sour taste to her mouth.

All her mother’s belonging were arranged in a strange place with the muggy smell and unpleasant setting.

She remembered the time that the things belonged to her mouth but after watching the scene, she never wanted to return.
