People who get easily distracted and focus on reacting more make a bad listener. The other characteristics of a bad listener are as follows:

1. Interrupting-Also known as verbal trespassers.  Bad listeners end up interrupting the speaker with their own thoughts and opinions. This can lead to debates or misunderstandings.

2. Judging- One should not be biased while listening to someone. Drawing one's conclusion and judging the other person makes one a bad listener.

3. Low concentration- Not paying attention and focussing on other things instead of the words of the speaker are traits of a bad listener.

4. Multitasking- Doing other work at the same time spoils the concentration and the person fails to focus on the words of the speaker.

5. Excessive blinking- Disinterest is shown by the listener when he blinks a lot compared to normal circumstances.

Bad listeners possess the characteristics mentioned below :

  • Judging : Many of us actually do this. One of my classmates once directly told me that she will never be going to listen to any seminars of an intellectual girl of our class who is apparently from a poor background. Like what it has to do with you, girl? Judging happens on several factors. Remember, we never know what a treasure the book holds within.

  • Pre-prepared and 'I know everything' attitude : People generally prepare, rather jot down what exactly they want to highlight. That's indeed a great thing. But, mates with overconfidence, overlook what the others are trying to say, by making up their mind to their self wordings. Now, that's rude!

  • Interrupting : Maximum 90% of the people do this. Either to negate or to express their points, they interrupt others in the middle, just like that! Hold on! Wait for your turn. If it can't wait, ask for the permission before intruding.

  • Busy bee attitude : People start to pretend as if they are listening to the talks. Man, if you are busy, tell him about the work you have and assure him that you'll listen to him once it is done. You never know what one is going through. Ignoring the talks can cost a lot.

  • Not so good eye contact : Looking here and there while a person is talking about something important, or blinking your eyes n times per second clearly shows your disinterest. Yawning and moving your legs repeatedly are also not the good signs. If you are not interested, ask politely and leave. Your actions may affect the presentator, badly.
