what led to civil war in sri lanka? how this could been avoided??

* Majoritarianism policy followed by Sri Lankan leaders which favoured only Sinhala people by disregarding needs of Tamil people was the major factor of civil war

* buddhism was declared  the only official religion and would be fostered

* Sinhala people were favoured for University seats and jobs by the act in 1956

* Tamil people demanded equal treatment and a separate "eelam ( state ) but in vain

* finally due to various conflicts between tamils and sinhalese, a civil war begun and ended in 2009

* it could have been avoided  by respecting wishes and needs of tamils ( minority) and accommodating the diversities
