in anticipation of war with french ,who had a trading settlement in chandernagore ,british began to fortify calcutta .this amounted to an attack on nawab's sovereignty . siraj the nawab of bengal was willing to let europeans stay in his kingdom as traders but certainly not as masters he ordered both british and french to dismantle their fortification french agreed but british refused so to teach them alesson siraj -ud-daulah marched towards the calcutta with large army and captured the fort of william in june 1756.robert clive arrived back from madras with strong military force and reconquered calcutta now robert clive and other british officials were willing to replace siraj so they made a secret plot with mir jafar the commander in chief of nawab's forces and also he was promised that he will be the next nawab of bengal . then british presented siraj -ud - daulah with an impossible set of demands . war became inevitable . both the forces clashed at plassey  with there forces.  large number of nawab's army didn't took part in the  battle as soon as the nawab realized that he was betrayed he tried to escape but was killed by the british . and mir jafar was made the king .
results:-
the english east india company was  granted the undisputed right to free trade in bengal ,bihar and orrissa 

the company was given the zamindari of 24 parganas 

mir jafar paid the company and its officials over 300 lakh rupees.
