Weather it be the first village in a bay or the tip of a peninsula, or at the crossroads of a heavy traffic road. The number one factor to make a city grow is location.

But with the medieval period its a little different. Its based on an idea of one in two.

Its got to be a trafficed location. And it has to have this;

This idea is something called secured location. In the medieval period, lords and kings were usually ready to grab land whenever it may be possible, weather a castle, a city, or even a couple farms. Cities that were raised during the medieval period, unless they are a Roman City began as just a stone tower castle. That became a walled castle. Then people started to make houses and buisnesses right next to the castle. Then those buildings got walls around them and so on, so forth.

A town or city in medieval times needs to be able to catch people on the road to make trade or bargains to create economic growth. Although, such a process was slow as not many people traveled as much as previously or hereafter.

Really the thing that made any kingdom with any city or town wealthy and grow. Was the Location
