The Jallianwala Bagh massacre happened on 13 April, 1919 at Amritsar, Punjab.

Several civilians, mostly Sikhs, had assembled at Jallianwala Bagh to take part in the Baisakhi celebrations and also to condemn arrest of two national leaders. They were unaware that the British had imposed martial law, the previous day, in that area.

Upon seeing this large crowd, the British Indian Army under Colonel Reginald Dyer, fired on them, resulting in several deaths.
