in Srilanka in 1956, an act was passed and sinhala was made as the official language disregading tamil.
in srilanka there were 13 percent tamils. this act favoured sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs.
the SriLankan Tamils launched parties and struggles and demanded for an independent state(tamil eelam)
