sri lanka is a few k.m away from India and have same population as harayana.
Ethnic composition of Sri lanka
Sti lanka has 74 % sinhala speakers and 18 %tamil speakers and native tamils are called Sriankan tamils.
most of sinbala speakers are buddhists .and tamil speakers are either hindu or muslims
In 1956 an act was passed to recognise Sinhala as official langiage disregarding tamil.
it favoured sinhala applicants for universities positions and govt.jobs .
these steps gradually increased feeling of alienation among tamils.
as a result relation btween tamil and sinhala worsened .
Sri lankan govt. continously rejected Tamils demand .
this soon resulted into civil war..
Sri lankan govt. was not succesful in convincing both communities..
hope it helps
