During 1920-22 non cooperation movement gained momentum. Thousands of students left government schools and colleges and joined schools run by nationalists. Hundreds of lawyers including C.R. Das, Motilal Nehru and Rajendra Prasad, gave up their legal practice. Huge bonfires of foreign cloth were organised all over the country. The imports of foreign cloth fell drastically between 1920-22
