Answer:
In the Third Anglo-Mysore War (1790–92), Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore and an ally of France, invaded the nearby state of Travancore in 1789 which was a British ally. British forces were commanded by Governor-General Cornwallis himself. The resultant war lasted three years and was a resounding defeat for Mysore..........Under Tipu's rule, Mysore became a leading centre in agriculture and trade. The British wanted to acquire this prosperous Kingdom. Tipu Sultan was one of the biggest threats and this was the main reason the British started conflict against the Mysore state......An army led by Charles, Earl Cornwallis consisting of British East India Company and British Army forces, along with allied forces from the Maratha Empire and the Nizam of Hyderabad, arrived at Seringapatam on 5 February 1792, and after less than three weeks of battle and siege, forced Tipu Sultan to capitulate.....
