in the 18th century, both the French and British East India company started colonizing Indian subcontinent for the spread of their empires. this colonization processes became almost like a fashion in Europe. therefore, France and Britain both had in their mind, about the expansion of their rule. while the British were capturing and establishing their authority in several places in India, French were restricted to certain territories only. Joseph Francois dupleix , the then governor general of the French company from 1742, sought to expand French influence in India. their main trading centres included pondicerry and coromondal coast areas. he started joining hands with the local Indian rulers for their own benefits and profits by spreading their arena of action and authority. on the other hand dupleix had an equally challenging competitor, Robert Clive ,a young officer from British army.
nizam ul mulk, established hyderabad as an independent kingdom. there was a bold conflict centering the throne between, his son Nasir Jung and his grandson muzaffar Jung. this was the golden opportunity for the foreign powers to interfere in Indian politics. France were on the side of muzaffar Jung while the English were on the side of Nasir Jung. this led to the subsequent carnatic war which comprised of three consequent battles which marked a great significant in Indian history taking the name of Anglo French rivalry.
