● A major step in 1986 by the Indian government was the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act known as COPRA.

● Under the COPRA act, a three tier institution at district, state and national levels was set up for redressal of consumer disputes.

● The district level courts deal with cases hoti 20 lakhs, the state level deals with cases between 20 lakhs to 1 crore and national level court deals with cases involving claims exceed more than 1 crore.

● If a case is dismissed at district level, A consumer can even appeal in the National court.
