the ladder the base and the wall are forming a right triangle

so,

by Pythagoras theorem

we get,

7²+4²=x²

here let x be the length of ladder

then,

x²=49+16

x²=65

x=√(65)ft

Answer:

The length of the ladder needed is 8.06ft

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

The height of wall is h=7ft and

The distance of base of ladder from the wall is d=4ft

Let the length of the ladder be l

Now we are required to find the length of ladder for which we shall use the Pythagorean theorem.It states that the square of hypotenuse of a triangle is the sum of squares of other two sides.

Hence,for our question we can write

l^{2}=h^{2}+d^{2}

Substituting the known values in the above relation,we get

l^{2}=7^{2}+4^{2}=49+16=65\\= > l=\sqrt{65} =8.06ft

Therefore,the length of the ladder needed is 8.06ft
